My body of work consists of a range of print techniques that touch on the topic of self-identity, often in relation to mental health. The stigma around mental illness, along with my own internalized shame, has made it hard for me to grapple with my anxiety. My inspiration comes from the idea of the “shadow self”, the parts of oneself that they do not want others to see, the things we keep hidden deep within. I often see my anxiety as a part of my “shadow self”, something I try to hide from the world. The work I create often has a darker theme, with a hint of satire. I typically work with minimal color, primarily using myself as the subject. The realization of my thoughts and emotions through the creation of my art is a way for me to express my inner self that I don’t always choose to express.
